BUZZARD CLUB OF AMERICA
HOUSTON CHAPTER NEWSLETTER
MARCH 2009 VOLUME 48 ISSUE 3

FOUNDED OCT 1961- ORGANIZED MAY 1963 FOUNDER - THOMAS E. WALTERS, JR
CHIEF BUZZARD ARLEN DEASON

"Let there be no strangers in the BUZZARD CLUB - Only friends that have yet to meet"

Hello Fellow Buzzards: I don’t have a lot to discuss this month so I’ll keep it short. I would like to remind everyone it’s that time again for the annual tournament so start getting your teams together. The date for the Annual Tournament still has not been set but I will let you know as soon as I find out. That’s really it for this month, so on with bowling!!!

Minutes of Meeting: Dennis opened the meeting and presented the treasurer’s report which passed. Two new member applications were voted on and also passed. Dennis handed out an award to Hector Cintron and then went over the upcoming tournaments. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.

Stupid State Laws
In Baltimore - it is illegal to throw a bale of hay from a second floor window.

Attendance: We had 56 Buzzards at the gathering in February, three that did not bowl and two pacers. Our next scheduled gathering is on March 1st @ Del Mar Lanes 3020 Mangum Houston (713) 682-2506. The meeting begins at 1 PM and bowling begins at 2 PM.

Bowling Reminder: There are only two balls per lane during warm-up and not 10 minutes. First and last names of bowlers are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign the sheet at the end of bowling. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $ 2.00 and be entered for “THE ELLIE DEASON MEMORIAL THREE – IN – A- ROW “roll-off in January. Don’t forget, if you show up to bowl in your birthday month, you pay only $6..

Who Could It Be?
This person made his fortune by supplying meat to the Union soldiers during the Civil War. In 1870 he built his first meat-packing plant in Chicago, which soon made that city the meat-packing center of the U.S.A.

Sad Note:
Our condolenses go out to the family of Austin McMahan, whose mother passed away on February 14th. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

JOKES, PICS AND INTERESTING FACTS

JOKE OF THE MONTH:
An elderly gent was invited to his old friend's home for dinner one evening. He was impressed by the way his buddy preceded every request to his wife with endearing terms - "Honey," "My Love," Darling," "Sweetheart," "Pumpkin," etc. The couple had been married almost 70 years and, clearly, they were still very much in love. While the wife was in the kitchen, the man leaned over and said to his host, "I think it's wonderful that, after all these years, you still call your wife those loving pet names." The old man hung his head. "I have to tell you the truth," he said. “I forgot her name about 10 years ago."

WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!!
A man who went through the self-checkout station at a Home Depot store in Seattle, Wash., accidentally punched the button on the computer for Spanish. The man then apparently became "frustrated that the machine was speaking Spanish" to him, the resulting police report said. The first item he was trying to buy: a pry bar. He used it to smash the computer, dropped the pry bar in his shopping cart, and walked out. The store said the man, who was not found by police, caused $10,000 in damage.

ON THIS DATE
On March 1, 1845 - U.S. President Tyler signed the congressional resolution to annex the Republic of Texas.

WEIRD BUT TRUE:
Luke Radick, 21, was charged with attempted robbery of the National Bank of Palmerton in Sciota, Pa., in January. Bank employees refused to buzz Radick in for the simple reason that he stood at the door, covering his face and holding a shotgun.

MORONS:
A 19-year-old male, driving the A67 highway near the Dutch town of Blerick, sought to impress his two passengers by putting his car on cruise control at 20 mph, getting out of the car, and running alongside it. He planned to jump back in and drive on, but the moment his feet hit the ground, he fell over and slammed headfirst into the asphalt. He was admitted to the hospital with severe brain damage, and died the next day.

FAMOUS QUOTES:
“My wife's a water sign. I'm an earth sign. Together we make mud.”
Rodney Dangerfield
