DECEMBER 2008 VOLUME 47 ISSUE 12

FOUNDED OCT 1961- ORGANIZED MAY 1963 FOUNDER - THOMAS E. WALTERS, JR
CHIEF BUZZARD ARLEN DEASON

"Let there be no strangers in the BUZZARD CLUB - Only friends that have yet to meet"

Hello Fellow Buzzards: I would like to remind everyone that we will be holding our annual Buzzard Christmas party this month. The meat will be provided but everyone is asked to bring a dish consisting of a vegetable, salad or dessert. If you did not sign up on the list provided by Donna, please contact her. We will eat as soon as everyone has finished bowling. That’s it for this month, so on with bowling!!!

Minutes of Meeting: Dennis opened the meeting and presented the treasurer’s report which passed. Three new member applications were voted on and also passed. Dennis reminded the members that the Christmas party is this month and will be at Del Mar. Donna passed around a sheet indicating what to bring for those members that did not have a chance to sign up. Dennis also reminded everyone that the meeting will start at 12 noon and bowling begins at 1pm, so be signed up by 12:30. Don’t forget memberships and dues are to be paid in January. The nominations of officers and rule changes will be recommended in December. Dennis informed the club that Bob King Sr. is ok following his surgery and that he is hoping to be at the Christmas party. He also told the club the tournamnet results and passed out winnings. Nothing else was brought up so the meeting was adjourned.

Attendance: We had 53 Buzzards at the gathering in November, three that did not bowl and 3 pacers. Our next scheduled gathering is on December 7, 2008 @ Del Mar Lanes (Christmas Party), 3020 Mangum / Houston (713) 682-2506. The meeting begins at NOON and bowling begins at 1 PM so please be signed up by 12:30.

Bowling Reminder: Please keep in mind that there are only two balls per lane during warm-up and not 10 minutes. First and last names of bowlers are to be put on the re-cap sheets each month. Also, make sure the total number of splits and your games are totaled before you sign the sheet at the end of bowling. If you re-qualify, please make a note on the re-cap sheet and you can receive a Buzzard pin for $ 2.00 and be entered for “THE ELLIE DEASON MEMORIAL THREE – IN – A- ROW “roll-off in January. Don’t forget, if you show up to bowl in your birthday month, you pay only $5..

Bring your new 2008 – 2009 Membership card in to show when you sign in. It’s that time of year again when I need proof that your USBC membership is current. You can either mail me a copy or fax it to me if you will not be coming to bowl any of the next two months. My fax number is the same as my home phone number. Call and I will turn the fax machine on.
Also, no more than four to a lane is to be signed up and you are not allowed to change the lane numbers to suit yourself. I didn’t say anything last month but it was noticed. Some seem to think they can do it because of their own reasons. Not so!! No more than four to a lane unless I find it necessary.
Finally, January will be the time for our annual roll off. Next month’s newsletter will list all members that will be competing.
THANKS!
Jackie

JOKES, PICS AND INTERESTING FACTS

JOKE OF THE MONTH:
An elderly gentleman, quite well to do, realized that his life was turning down the final stretch, so he summoned the three friends that he trusted the most for some advice. One was a doctor, one a priest, and the other an attorney."I've been thinking lately," he said to them, "that perhaps there is something to the ancient Egyptian belief that when we die, we take some things with us to the next world. So, I'm giving each of you an envelope with $1 million cash in it. At my funeral, I ask each of you to slip it into my casket so that I can use it on my journey to the next world." The three agreed. A few weeks later, he was dead. At the funeral, each of the three went up to the casket, and each placed an envelope into the casket. Afterwards, the three were talking, and the doctor couldn't keep it in any longer. "I have a confession," he said. "This year has been quite bad for the clinic. My CAT scanner broke, and I had to scrape to replace it. I took $80,000 out of the envelope to pay for it." As the other two cringed, the priest then added, "I must confess, too. The poor have been especially unfortunate this year, and to provide them with food, I took $120,000 out and used it to feed and clothe them." The attorney was beside himself. "I am disgusted. Our friend asked but one thing of each of us, and trusted us with his last request. How could you two break that trust and go against his wishes?" The doctor replies, "You expect us to believe that you, an attorney, didn't take anything out of your envelope?" "I would never!" replied the attorney. "In that envelope was a personal check for the full amount!"

WOULD YOU BELIEVE!!!
Jeff Goza, 37, was driving his pest control truck in Gurnee, Ill., when he accidentally cut off another driver behind the wheel of a Volvo. The Volvo driver was clearly angry, he said, and started to "aggressively" follow him until deciding to get back at him by cutting him off too. But the Volvo driver lost control and hit the curb, which caused him to flip at least four times before coming to a stop on its roof. But he wasn't done yet: the bloodied man crawled out and tried to pick a fight with Goza, who had stopped to render aid. Goza is at least five inches taller than the Volvo driver, and outweighed him by about 100 pounds, so he let the guy take out his frustration. "I wasn't going to hit him back," he said. "I was just afraid that I was going to be implemented in all of this." Police let Goza go, but charged the Volvo driver, Steven Stankovitch, 47, with reckless driving and battery.

ON THIS DATE
On December 7, 1982 Charlie Brooks Junior, a convicted murderer, became the first prisoner in the United States to be executed by injection, at a prison in Huntsville, Texas.

WEIRD BUT TRUE:
In July, Scott Bennett, 48, lost an eye in a fight at the Mavericks night club in Sioux City, Iowa. Then, on Oct. 12, in another fight at Mavericks, Bennett lost his other eye.

MORONS:
Seven college kids decided to raise a little ruckus after a party. They all piled into a pickup, one in the cab and the rest in the back, and they drove down deserted backroads pulling stop signs out of the dirt. The goal was to get as many as possible into the truck. Speeding back to the party, they were struck by a delivery vehicle at--you guessed it--an intersection which had, until recently, sported a safety marker. The six in the back of the truck were killed, and the driver was badly injured. The patrol officer said he would never forget the sight of the dead students sprawled at the wreck, surrounded by twenty-seven stop signs.

PREDICTION FROM THE PAST:
"It will be years -- not in my time -- before a woman will become Prime Minister."
Margaret Thatcher, 1974.
